Northland starting to impress

Dinner with a beautiful woman

Long day today but the legs have shaken off the four days of relaxation in Auckland and it went very smooth.

The day started with a bit of a headache, not sure if due to the irregular sleeping pattern or to the beer that I was offered last night by a South Tyrol camper that wanted to know all about my ride.

Got into Waipu, which is almost as backwatery as Eketauna, and got some breakfast to get me going for the day.  I was not completelysure what to expect from the ride as when the stage is long the hills on the Google profile tend to look much sharper than they are in reality but I just peddaled on and took a relaxed approach at what was in front of me.

The weather continues to amaze me, I was cladded and still cold on the 22nd of October going through the UK and here it’s short sleeves and suntan.

Not much to report on the day really other than I had a nice lunch in Whangarei, before you get too excited it was just a wrap, and cycled quite fast despite the substantial amount of hill that I encountered.

As I was approaching the destination I stopped for a ice cream in a gallery caffe, more actually to get at a point with a view than because I was hungry. The place was smashing and I encourage anybody that finds themselves in the vicinity to stop and visit.

After that it was just the case of coming down the hill, going up and down another two and I got to the sea again.

The amp site is quite splendid, right on the beach and, as I got here at arround 15:00, I had the time to go for a swim. the bay is almost closed off at low tide so the sea is calm and I really loved the relaxing sensation of just being in the water.

Only one thing was left for the day before writing it all up, having some food.

Tomorrow I’ll be in the Bay of Islands, lots of expectations as more than one person has told me about the beauty to be seen there, let’s hope expectations will be met.
