Pain, boredom and tiredness

What a long long day

It was not raining, there was no drama and yet today was a very difficult day, one of those days that makes you wonder why.

Today was the last day of everlasting flatness, from tomorrow I’ll start seeing some hills and I have reduced my planned distances accordingly. While I did complete the ride in good time it was less than problem free. The pain in the tendons was there all day and made me wonder about the next few days. I told Janette I was going to be in Batemans Bay next Friday to be picked up to go to Canberra, as it is the weather has already eaten into that and I won’t be there before Saturday, what now if I have to stop somewhere to regain leg function. I think I’ll cycle tomorrow but will go to the pharmacy in the morning to get some localised painkiller, hopefully having to do 10 miles less tomorrow and keeping a lower pace for the next few days might allow the inflammation to go away.

Other than thinking about the pain in the legs there was nothing much to do today, the route was plain and simply boring, nothing to look at other than the occasional car. It occurred to me that perhaps I made a mistake coming to Australia with the bicycle, today reminded me of a day back in 1999 when I decided that it was a good idea to visit Los Angeles on foot, perhaps there are some places that are only made to be visited with motorised vehicles.

It was also quite cold, despite the fact that the sun was out most of the day it is starting to be rather low on the horizon and therefore its warming power is not high.

The arrival at Lakes Entrance offered the only opportunity for taking a feew pictures on a day where I saw no live or dead animals at all, perhaps they are not out at the week end.

On the whole therefore a day that has not left any good memories, hopefully tomorrow will be better and my legs will allow me to enjoy the section of the East Gippsland Rail Trail to Marlo.
